The Supreme Court Building in San Juan, Puerto Rico is a Modern Movement-style building from 1955. It was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2006.[1]
It is a concrete building designed by Puerto Rican firm Toro-Ferrer with design consultation by Charles H. Warner, Jr. and Harold Eliot Leeds. The building projects over a reflecting pool, helping it to blend with the park surroundings in Luis Munoz Rivera Park.[2]
The court building was opened in 1956 with U.S. Supreme Court chief justice Earl Warren as the main speaker.[2] The building has been described as "extroverted...light and airy".[2] Its circular courtroom was unusual.[2]
The Supreme Court in Puerto Rico is the highest court in the commonwealth, and is the successor to court first established by the Spanish in 1832.[2]
